The processing done by the host CPU can often be accelerated if the application can be informed about what kind of frame it is going to process. The application might need to perform different processing for different frame types, such as of VoIP frames, call setup frames, FTP frames and HTTP frames.
The Napatech Network Adapters can assign a tag/color to any category of frame specified by the customer application via the 64 programmable adapter filters.
The tags are communicated to the server application in each packet descriptor at a fixed offset so that the application can retrieve it fast.
