NAC PCAP compatibility
Napatech NACs enable in-house development of scalable high performance network applications over PCAP/WinPCAP. Napatech NACs also support industry standard PCAP applications, see below.
Wireshark is the world’s foremost network protocol analyzer. It lets you see what’s happening on your network at a microscopic level. It is the de facto (and often de jure) standard across many industries and educational institutions. Wireshark development thrives thanks to the contributions of networking experts across the globe. It is the continuation of a project that started in 1998.
tcpdump is a powerful command-line packet analyzer; and libpcap, a portable C/C++ library for network traffic capture. Find the latest stable version of tcpdump and libpcap, as well as current development snapshots, a complete documentation, and information about how to report bugs or contribute patches.
Tcpreplay is a suite of PLv3 licensed tools written by Aaron Turner for UNIX (and Win32 under Cygwin) operating systems which gives you the ability to use previously captured traffic in libpcap format to test a variety of network devices. It allows you to classify traffic as client or server, rewrite Layer 2, 3 and 4 headers and finally replay the traffic back onto the network and through other devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, NIDS and IPS’s. Tcpreplay supports both single and dual NIC modes for testing both sniffing and inline devices.
Suricata is a high performance Network IDS, IPS and Network Security Monitoring engine. Open Source and owned by a community run non-profit foundation, the Open Information Security Foundation (OISF). Suricata is developed by the OISF and its supporting vendors.
Ostinato is a packet crafter, network traffic generator and analyzer with a friendly GUI and powerful Python API for network test automation. Craft and send packets of several streams with different protocols at different rates. It is “Wireshark in Reverse”. Ostinato aims to provide a traffic generator and tester tool for every network engineer and developer – something not possible today with the existing commercial solutions. With the right tool, network developers and engineers can do their jobs better and improve the quality of networking products.
