Industry pain points

With the overwhelming volume of users, data and connected devices, identifying and remediating network issues is becoming an increasingly demanding and resource-heavy task. Various solutions are available for testing and verifying the performance of a device or system, but most are proprietary and extremely pricey – and many rely on synthetic data alone. And while synthetic data is sufficient for certain tasks, it does not deliver a 1:1 reflection of reality, which in many instances is crucial to uncover and remediate network issues.

The most reliable approach by far for troubleshooting and testing system performance is replaying real-world PCAP files exactly as they were captured on the network. Solution

In accommodating this need, TOYO selected Napatech’s FPGA-based SmartNIC software and hardware to extend their product line support, including additional features to deliver accurate traffic replay at 100G speeds.

Transmit on timestamp

The replay capabilities of the Napatech SmartNIC are based on an advanced feature that enables transmit on timestamp. The transmit is controlled by the timestamp, which means that the exact capture timing can be replayed with nanosecond precision. This facilitates exact session replication both for lab and real network testing and enables network engineers to simulate, analyze and remedy any network issues as generated by peaks or bursts.

In a typical scenario, the traffic is captured at a single point in the network and replayed via one single output port in the lab environment.

In more complex cases, it will also be possible for TOYO’s customers to capture and replay traffic from multiple points in the network. In such scenarios, the Napatech SmartNIC capability to synchronize clocks from various appliances will enable holistic and consistent capture and replay across the entire infrastructure.
